It’s difficult to blame them, the Cinque Terre national park is indeed a heavenly beautiful place. But is there a way to enjloy these views without all the people?
Cinque Terre is a perfect example of how a travel destination can become victim to its own popularity. Crowds of tourists and hikers have literally invaded the trails between the five famous villages.
There is, and that’s what Untouristis offers! Quiter paths, uncommon view points, and a longer trekking with more emotions and better experience.

What to expect:
You’ll have to get early on the first day, but don’t worry, there will be a chance to fall asleep again on the train. At 7.00 we leave Milan and in a couple of hours the urban landscapes in the window will give place to green hills, bright yellow houses and deep blue sea. Welcome to a new world!
Ligurian towns full of sun and colour
The first views of the sea melting into the sky on the horizon
Steps going somewhere up, and up again, and again… is it the way right to the heaven?!
What the hell am I doing here? There was a perfect beach with lovely cafes around!
Dinner in a lonely ancient monastery in the mountains where we will spend the night
Monterosso, the first of the Cinque Terre
Tasting strawberry tree fruits and getting to know the plant secrets
13 km, +800m, -950m
What to expect:
If we are lucky we will see a huge duvet of clouds covering the sea under our feet. If we are not, there will be cliffs and waves framed by the typical Mediterranean forest. The day will anyway be full of beauty.
Going up and down again, trying to look under your feet while the eyes tend to be fixed on everything they see aroung
Vernazza, another Cinque Terre town on the sea shore. Ceramic shops, ice cream cones, striped wooden boats, a small medieval fort and seagull screams. We get back to civilization
One of the most picturesque paths. There is no way avoiding people here, but it’s worth it
Lunch in a rare family run old restaurant
Riomaggiore, the last of the Cinque Terre towns where we spend a night
One of the most fascinating trails of the whole trekking tour: yellow terraced vineyards on one side and bright blue sea on the other
13 km, +800m, -950m
What to expect:
Early motning walk in Riomaggiore harbour and listening to the waves wisper on a hidden beach
Steps again. Ok, at least now you know the suffering is worth it!
Another monastery on the hill. Couldn’t they build them on the shore?
Views getting wilder and people rarer. How can they all miss it?
13 km, +700m, - 600m
Le Grazie, a small port where we will spend the last night
Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, small islands forming a postcard view only hikers get to enjoy
What to expect:
Is it the last morning here? Why did the time pass so quickly?
Coffee in a small mountain hut overlooking Portovenere
Mussels and fish, perfect local dishes for lunch
A mountain river to cool off your feet
11km, +1000m, - 900m
The Bayron bay where we can get the last salted sea drops on our faces while listening to the waves crash against the cliffs
Portovenere with its charm and a chance to get a couple of Ligurian souvenirs
A bus, a train and late at night we are back to Milan… which looks so weird now, you can doubt the last four days were real.
Feedback
I had an incredible hiking trip in Liguria with Italia Untouristic. The organisation was flawless, and our guide was exceptionally professional. I loved meeting people from diverse backgrounds, all connected by a shared passion for hiking, good food, and art. Walking along the stunning Ligurian coastline and through the mountains, enjoying deep conversations, and feeling physically active without being exhausted made the experience unforgettable. It was a joy to explore the beautiful towns of Cinque Terre, one step at a time. Highly recommended!

Trekking through Cinque Terre with Katja was nothing short of spectacular. This stretch of five colorful villages along the Ligurian coast is famous for its jaw-dropping views, rugged trails, and, let’s be honest, amazing food—all of which I fully embraced.
We took on the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail), winding through terraced vineyards and dramatic cliffs. Some sections were a leisurely stroll, while others (looking at you, Monterosso to Vernazza) had me questioning my life choices mid-ascent. The Via dell’Amore (Path of Love) was an easier, scenic highlight—perfect for catching my breath and pretending I wasn’t sweating buckets.
The views? Unreal. Turquoise waters, postcard-worthy villages, and the scent of wild rosemary and lemon trees in the air. And let’s not forget the food—because no hike in Italy is complete without pesto pasta, fresh seafood, and focaccia, all washed down with a well-earned glass of local white wine.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Just maybe after another plate of pasta. Highly recommend visiting in spring or fall for the best experience!
