Hiking in the Dolomites

Hiking tour in the Dolomites

Untouristic. How it all started

Summer 2015

I pack a 65l rucksack and set off for the biggest adventure in my life – Via Francigena. The plan was to walk from Canterbury to Rome, but it was not enough and after more than 3000km on foot
all alone I ended up at the most southern point of Italy Santa Maria di Leuca.

That is how it all started as during that journey I received the first “can I join you?” message. People wanted to to get great travel experience and new I could give it. I was already a tour guide and a tour leader, but it took me around 5 years of training more to get and international mountain leader licence.

In 2023 Untouristic srl, an official tour operator was born. I had dozens of hiking tours organized and accompanied, I’ve been to every single region of Italy, I knew the best places to show and the most interesting stories to tell. It was time to expand so that more tourists could get the best hiking holidays Italy could offer.

Untouristic is not only about hiking, though. It is about uniting real people in this digitalized world. People with similar beliefs and values:

Appreciation and safety of nature (there is no better way entering our black list than leaving litter during a hike)

Education and knowledge – our guides will introduce you to the local history, culture, and cuisine, and will tell you about local flora and fauna (no boring wikipedia info here, only stories you will get enchanted with.

Human relations – when was the last time you had an interesting dialogue? Sometimes hiking brings together people who otherwise would have never met. It can be a huge source of inspiration and new friends!

Art – you might think architecture, paintings, theatre and music have nothing to do with hiking, but they do. Untouristic unites people who love Beauty. Both nature and man-made.

Did you know, for example, that fawns are born without any smell so that predators can’t find them? Or that birches are pretty bitchy trying literally to kill their neighbour-trees?)

If you find yourseld in what we believe in, I am sure we will match!

Сost:
What is your first thought when we say “Dolomites”? Snowy peaks of gargantuan mountains? Steep rocky slopes and emerald lakes? Deathening silence? It is all true, but the Dolomites can offer you
much more.

You can admire magic sunsets and sunrises with clouds under your feet. You can feel the adventurous spirit of all these crazy people who gather in the mountain huts in the evenings filling the dining room with jokes, laughter and travel tales.

You can go to a sauna at 2750m height. You can find another YOU, more courageous, more outright, more determined and light hearted at the same time. And that is perhaps the biggest present the Dolomites can give.

What to expect:
At 8.00 you meet your guide and the group at the Verona Porta Nuova station and with a private transfer set off for a new trip. Say goodbye to misty Venice, you will see it again in 5 days, but you will be a different person by then.
“Wow! Are they the Alps? Or the Dolomites? What is the difference? Actually, I need no answer, I love them anyway!”
“Do you smell what I smell? This air is so different and so pure! Don’t I get dizzy with it?”
Forests, mountain rivers, a picknick in the middle of an alpine meadow… you just slowly realize being places into a new reality
Your first mountain hut with cozy red checkered curtains on the windows, a warm atmosphere and your first typical local dinner
13 km, +800m, -950m
What to expect:
Getting to know the morning routine in the mountains: queues in front of the bathrooms, sleepy faces, fantastic local yoghurt, a search for your trekking boots among a pile of others’ and chilly, almost crispy air outside
Your first mountain pass with a stunning view and your next hut as a tiny spot in the horizon
Picknic by the lake under the Tofane peaks
A long and strenuous assent which will give a great satisfaction and great view at the end
12 km, +1200m, -600m
Lagazuoi, one of the most legendary huts in the Dolomites
Sauna at 2752 meters hight
What to expect:
A sunrise you are destined to remember (fingers crossed for the weather): crimson sky and clouds beneath your feet
Cinque Torri – Five Towers, a place full of mysticism and history from the I World War times
Your best lunch on the route. If you don’t feel like licking your fingers after these dishes the lunch is on us! Oh, is it on us anyway? No worries, you’ll love it anyway!
A family run mountain house (I just don’t dare calling it a hut) which sleeps… only 8 of us
13 km, +700m, - 600m
The alpine jingle bells from the lazy cows along the way
What to expect:
“How can it all be so diverse? We’ve been walking for just 4 days!”
“Is it real blueberry? Can I really eat it?”
Edelweiss and romantic legends around it
A mountain river to cool off your feet
11km, +1000m, - 900m
Happiness after another long and tiring day is over and sadness there is only one day left
A night by the lake and (hopefuly) our last magical Enrosadira
What to expect:
A morning walk arount the lake
The last never ending descent back to civilization
Cortina d’Ampezzo with its Olympic glory
The last lunch and the last cheers to new adventures
11km, +1000m, - 900m
Back to Venice with promises to be back!
